When renting makes sense
A stairlift rental is the right call in a few specific situations:
- Post-surgery recovery. Hip replacement, knee surgery, or other procedures that limit mobility for a few months.
- Short-term disability. Recovering from an injury where the user will regain full mobility.
- Visiting family. Aging parent staying with you for an extended period.
- Trial period. You want to live with a stairlift for a few months before committing to buying one.
- End-of-life care. A loved one is in their final months and needs accessibility in a multi-story home.
If any of these describe your situation, renting is almost always cheaper than buying — and we handle installation, maintenance, and removal.
How stairlift rentals typically work in Oklahoma
Rental programs usually follow a similar structure:

You can usually cancel with 30 days’ notice after the initial period. If your needs change — for example, you decide you’d rather own the lift permanently — many installers will apply a portion of what you’ve paid toward a future purchase.

What’s usually NOT included:

When renting stops being worth it (vs. buying)
There’s a tipping point where buying becomes cheaper than renting. As a rough rule:
- Less than 6 months → rental almost always wins
- 6–12 months → it’s a wash, depending on whether you want the lift to stay permanently
- More than 12 months → buying usually wins
Other factors that change the math:
- Do you own the home? If yes, buying makes sense for long-term use. If you’re renting the home yourself, a permanent installation may not be allowed.
- Is the staircase straight or curved? Used and rental options work well on straight staircases. Curved rails are hard to repurpose.
- Is the user likely to need the lift long-term? A progressive condition (MS, ALS, severe arthritis) usually means buying makes more sense.
What to expect during a rental install
The rental installation process is essentially the same as a purchase installation — minus the long-term commitment:
- Free in-home assessment. We measure your staircase and confirm a rental unit will work for your situation.
- Rental agreement. You sign a contract specifying the rental period, monthly fee, and what’s covered.
- Installation. Same 2–4 hour install as a purchase. No structural changes to your home.
- Use the lift as long as you need. Call us if anything goes wrong — maintenance is included.
- Removal. When the rental period ends, we remove the lift. Holes in your stairs from the rail mount are minor and easily filled.
Most Oklahoma rental installations happen within a week of the initial assessment. Some installers keep rental units in inventory for faster turnaround.
What kind of stairlifts are available for rent?
Straight stairlifts make up the majority of rental inventory in Oklahoma. They’re modular, easy to install and remove, and easy to refurbish and redeploy to the next customer. Most rental fleets are straight units.
Curved stairlift rentals are rarer, because the rail has to be custom-built for your staircase. Most Oklahoma installers don’t keep curved units in rental inventory. If you need a curved rental, options include:
- Limited inventory. A few Oklahoma installers keep one or two curved units for short-term needs. Lead time is usually a few weeks.
- Rent-to-own. Some installers will apply a portion of your rental payments toward a future purchase, with the curved rail customized to your home.
